A Year at Jokoji Temple

New Year Visit

New Year Visit

The first temple visit of the year. Guests are welcome, and omikuji (fortune slips) are available.

Nehan-e Memorial Service

Nehan-e Memorial Service

A memorial service to honor the passing of the Buddha. Includes a sermon by a priest. After the service, the Jokoji Administration Council holds its annual meeting to share the year’s events and financial reports.

Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival)

Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival)

Dolls are displayed to pray for the healthy growth of children. The head priest and staff organize games and give out sweets, fostering community engagement.

Parishioner Gathering

A gathering to deepen ties between temple members and the local community. Held on the temple grounds.

August 1 Morimoto Cemetery Cleanup
Before the Obon visits, we will conduct grass cutting and a full cleanup of the cemetery.
August 2–4 Kyōgi Reception
Kyōgi prayer sticks created by the head priest are distributed. Reception is held by the temple staff in the main hall.
August 2–7 Grave Memorial Services at Morimoto Cemetery
The head priest will be stationed at the cemetery to perform memorial services for each family grave.
August 12–14 Obon Home Visits
The head priest will visit the homes of temple parishioners to perform memorial prayers for their ancestors.
August 16 Obon Segaki Ceremony (Rakugo Performance & Farewell Fire)
August Jizō Bon Festival
September 23 Autumn Equinox Memorial Service (Higan-e)
November 19 Jūyakai (Ten Nights Ceremony)
